KATHMANDU: Californian authorities have provided more information on the state's organic COVID-19 variant, while also attributing the mutated pathogen to the exponential rise in the number of freshly reported cases of the infection, on Monday.

According to the New York Post, two groups of researchers stumbled upon the Californian COVID-19 variant–B1429 strain–while researching into the highly-contagious UK variant of the respiratory pathogen (B117).

The Golden State's COVID-19 variant is found to be in the same family tree as that of the UK COVID-19 strain, which has already infected as many as 456 dwellers across the state, Governor Gavin Newsom was quoted as saying.

Authorities are uncertain on whether or not new vaccines are required to neutralise the now-spreading variant while urging the Californians to receive the current vaccine shots in circulation.

California remains as on one of the most affected American states with more than 3.2 million cases of the infection being reported as of today in addition to more than 37,000 lives which have already been lost consequential to the pandemic.
