Bomb blast kills 10 near Pakistan militant base

ISLAMABAD: A bomb attack near a mosque and an Islamist militant base in Pakistan's lawless tribal belt near the Afghan border killed at least 10 people on Thursday, security officials said.

The nature of the attack was not immediately clear, but intelligence officials suggested it could have been one Islamist militant group attacking another in Khyber which straddles the NATO supply line into Afghanistan.

"Ten people have been killed and dozens of others are injured in the bomb blast outside the mosque," a senior intelligence official in Peshawar told AFP.

Another intelligence official in Bara Town in Khyber confirmed the toll and said: "There are reports that a local commander Azam Khan of Lashkar-e-Islam was also killed in the blast."
