Bombings kill 4 policemen, 4 civilians: Afghan officials

KABUL: Afghans officials say a suicide car bombing killed four policemen in southern Kandahar province while a motorcycle bomb blast in western Herat province killed four civilians.

General Abdul Raziq, Kandahar's police chief, says the suicide bomber blew up his explosives-laden car in front of the governor's compound in Maiwand district on Friday morning.

There was no official claim of responsibility but Raziq blamed the Taliban. Along with the four killed, the explosion also wounded six policemen.

Abdul Haaed Walizada, spokesman for the provincial police chief in Herat, says the motorcycle bombing there took place Thursday evening in a Shiite area of the city of Herat, the provincial capital.

Walizada says that along with the four civilians killed, six were wounded. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for that attack.
