KATHMANDU, JANUARY 29

Responding to the Chinese crackdown, the United Kingdom is set to launch a historic immigration regulation granting access to millions of Hong Kong dwellers for British National Overseas citizenship, from Sunday.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had launched the scheme that offers a path to obtaining a British citizenship on Friday stating that it was in line with UK's commitment to honor its erstwhile nationals.

"I am immensely proud that we have brought this new route for Hong Kong BN(O) to live, work and make their home in our country," Johnson was quoted as saying in the Guardian.

According to the official estimates, following the launch of the visa route, over one million people are expected to migrate from Hong Kong to the UK within the coming five years.

The aforementioned scheme was previously floated in July as the contentious national security legislation decreed by China in Hong Kong, which obliterates political liberties to a great extent.

The rift between the two powerhouses of the World--UK and China-- is further widening as China has reacted with regarding the path to citizenship as a violation of international laws and as a British attempt at interfering with Beijing's internal affairs.
