KATHMANDU, APRIL 9

Prince Philip, spouse of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain, passed away today at the age of 99.

The Buckingham Palace issued a statement following the demise of the Duke of Edinburgh stating "His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

Philip had returned to Windsor Castle after spending a month in hospital on March 16.

Further announcements are expected to be made by the palace soon

"The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss," the palace's statement read.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, upon hearing of the passing away of the Duke of Edinburgh, said the news has been received with great sadness.
