China wall collapse toll 11

Beijing, August 1:

An ethnic festival in China’s southwestern Yunnan province turned tragic when a wall collapsed killing 11 people, including four children, state press reported today. Another 17 were injured. The 20-metre wide concrete wall toppled on Saturday night during the opening of the annual Yi ethnic minority torch festival, which was being celebrated in Yuanyang county,

the Beijing Times said. Some 5,000 residents and tourists were taking part, many of whom were climbing on and around the wall to get a better view when it gave way. Twenty-eight people were trapped under the rubble.
