Court rejects eviction plea

BANGKOK: A Thai court on Monday dismissed the government’s request for a legal order to evict protesters from Bangkok’s tourist hub but said it already had such powers under a tough security law. “Because the Internal Security Act has the power and that can immediately take effect it is not necessary to seek the court’s approval,” said a judge at the Bangkok court hearing the case. The gathering by the supporters of fugitive Thaksin Shinawatra has already been banned under the emergency security law.
