Several countries in southeast Asia and Europe are reporting increased instances of coronavirus infection, again

KATHMANDU, MARCH 18

The Government of India has asked the state governments to resume the process of monitoring symptoms related to Covid-19 as countries in southeast Asia and Europe have, yet again, been reporting increase in cases of coronavirus infection.

GoI has issued the aforementioned memo to state governments citing possibility of resurgence of the pandemic, at a time India has been reporting a steady decrease in cases.

According to the Press Trust of India, India's Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has asked all states and Union Territories to ensure an adequate number of samples are submitted to the INSACOG network for timely detection of new Covid variants.

Stressing on maintaining testing according to protocols, the Health Ministry, in a letter circulated to concerned state authorities, has asked them to observe all precautions and not letting the guard down while resuming economic and social activities.

Of late, testings had been stopped in India as the infections registered a steady decline throughout the country.

As Southeast Asia and some countries of Europe reported a spike in cases, India's Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya called for a high-level meeting on March 16 where the states were advised to focus on aggressive genome sequencing, intensified surveillance and overall vigil on the Covid situation, as per the PTI.
