Patna, January 28:

Schoolchildren in Patna today marched to the Bihar governor’s residence here to protest the reported kidnapping of four students in the last 10 days. Carrying placards and holding up banners, the demonstration was an effort to draw the attention of Governor Buta Singh to the spate of kidnappings — an issue that has acquired emotive, political tones in the run up to the state assembly elections beginning on February 3.

A member of the Bihar Public School and Children’s Welfare Association said the students urged the governor to intervene and ensure the safe recovery of the children. The first child to go missing was Kislay Kaushal, a Delhi Public School student in Patna, on January 19.

The second was Ravi Kant of the DAV Public School in Biharsharif, the third Deepak Kumar of the DAV Public School in Bhagalpur and the fourth Sumit Kumar, a Class 7 student of St Paul Public School in Patna.
