SAARC nations’ mantra: Go green
NEW DELHI: SAARC Secretary General Dr Sheel Kant Sharma has said that Clean Development Mechanism-related international deliberations should do away with prejudices against
nuclear power.
Addressing a one-day 'SAARC Clean Development Mechanism' conference here today, Sharma said that over and above the existing channels for CDMs and the structure of the carbon market, SAARC nations could also work jointly together towards acceptability of nuclear power under the CDM rubric, both as a primary energy source as well as for producing
hydrogen.
The conference was organised by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, and ably supported by FICCI. Indian Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh said
India was the second largest user of CDM projects after China but had been rated as the world's best country in terms of use and their impacts.
