Ahmedabad, July 27:

A chapatti (leavened bread) with a diameter of seven feet and weighing 63.99 kg made in Gujarat has entered the Guinness book of World Records.

The ‘rotlo’, a chapatti made of millet flour prepared for a Gujarat temple, was prepared by 10 volunteers in an hour using 40 kg of millet flour, 28.89 litre water, one kg salt and 500 gram oil.

The feat was the chief feature of a religious festival held at Jalaram temple of Hapa in Jamnagar district, about 320 km from here, in January.

After verifications that went on for six months, the authorities of the Guinness Book of World Records earlier this month upheld the claim.

“We received an official certificate from them this month,” said Sureshbhai Baka-raniya of the Jalaram Temple Renovation Committee.

In support of the claim, the committee had sent a video recording of the making of the record-breaking ‘rotlo’ as well as authentication letters from local administrators.
