Seven North Koreans seek asylum in South Korea

Bangkok: Seven North Koreans who have sought refuge at the Thai Embassy in Hanoi have asked for asylum in South Korea, Thailand’s foreign minister said today. The seven, who entered the mission yesterday will remain at the embassy while Thai officials try to confirm their identities, said Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon. “They aspire to go to South Korea. If they don’t leave, the Thai Embassy will continue to host them. We will proceed with care and under humanitiarian principles,” he said. — AP
