Firing mishap

SRINAGAR: A police officer’s rifle went off accidentally on Thursday and killed a colleague in Indian-controlled Kashmir, and a passer-by was fatally shot by paramilitary soldiers who mistakenly thought they were under attack, police said. Another officer was also wounded in the accidental shooting in Srinagar, the summer capital of India’s Jammu-Kashmir state. — AP

3 dead in plane crash

JAKARTA: An Indonesian military transport plane crashed on Thursday just short of a runway in Aceh province, killing three officers on board, while a second military aircraft was reported missing over Java Island, the military said. Four other soldiers were injured in the accident. —AP

Blast in Pak mosque

LADHA: Assailants hurled a hand grenade into a mosque in a northwest Pakistan tribal area on Thursday, killing two worshippers and wounding four, a government official said. It was not clear who was behind the attack in Lower Kurram, a village in the rugged South Waziristan tribal region near the Afghan border. — AP
