Shimla, June 27:

Thousands of tourists and locals remained stranded along the banks of the swollen Sutlej river in Himachal Pradesh today.

Despite slight improvement, authorities did not strike off the high security alert sounded in the state where stretches of the national highway have been washed away by the river.

“Hundreds of tourists are stranded in Kinnaur and we have sought police help,” Sumit Khimta, an official, said in Rekong Peo, headquarters of Kinnaur district.
