At least 44 killed in Hurricane Ida induced record rain and floods

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 3

At least three Nepalis were among those killed in the flash flooding induced by Hurricane Ida in New York of United States, on Thursday evening.

The flash flooding killed at least 44 people in four Northeastern US states as remnants of Hurricane Ida unleased torrential rains that swept away cars, submerged New York City subway lines and grounded airline flights, officials were quoted as saying in Reuters.

At least 13 fatalities have been reported in New York City alone.

The deceased have been identified as Ang Gelu Lama, his wife Mingma Yangji Sherpa Lama and their 19-month-old son Lopsang Lama, informed Ang Tshering Sherpa, NRNA New York Chapter.

The family of three hailing from Junbesi of Dudhkunda Municipality-2 of Solukhumbu district were currently residing in Woodside in New York, added NRNA New York Chapter.
