Abductors posing themselves as Biplav Maoist land in police net

KATHMANDU: Police have rescued two persons from the clutches of abductors in Kathmandu on Sunday.

The abductors, who posed themselves as Biplav Maoist cadres, had kidnapped Gopal Babu Shrestha (61) of Ramechhap, currently residing in New Bus Park of Kathmandu, and Kavita Dahal (42) of Jhaukhel in Bhaktapur yesterday.

According to a press statement issued today, police have arrested four persons involved in the incident. They had abducted Shrestha and Dahal separately at around 10:00 pm yesterday.

Police arrested Shakti Bishwakarma (28) of Dolakha district and currently residing in Bhaktapur; Madan Krishna Maharjan (32) and Anju Deula Maharjan (32) of Sunar village in Kalanki; and Anju Bharati (34) of Nagarjun Municipality.

Shakti and Madan had taken Shrestha to a hotel, where he was working for the past nine months, to get his documents. Police rescued him in the meantime.

Similarly, police raided the Bagbazar-based youth organisation of the Biplav Maoist and rescued Dahal, who was held captive by Anju and Bharati.

It has been learned that the kidnappers had forcefully taken their targets in a cab. Motives behind the incidents are yet to be known.

Two other suspects involved in the crime are at large, informed police.
