KATHMANDU, APRIL 25

The Supreme Court has stayed the order of the Patan High Court to detain seven individuals, including CPN (UML) leader Top Bahadur Rayamazhi and former secretary Teknarayan Pandey, accused in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam.

The bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Tek Prasad Dhungana denied the bail petition of the accused, including Dr. Indrajit Rai, advisor to the former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, who is the main accused in the Bhutanese refugee case, along with Keshav Prasad Dulal, Sanu Bhandari, Sagar Rai, and Sandesh Sharma.

Rayamajhi and others appealed to the Supreme Court against the orders of the District Court Kathmandu and the High Court Patan to send them to prison for investigation.

However, the Court ordered the release of Nepali Congress leader Angtawa Sherpa on bail. Similarly, the court overturned the Patan High Court's order to detain Jima Sherpeni, Tenji Puti Sherpeni, Pemwa Sherpa, Jima Sherpa, Lamdopa Sherpa, and Soni Sherpa. Likewise, Govind Kumar Chaudhary has been granted bail.

The Apex Court also ordered the release of Shamsher Miyan, the former Chair of the Central Haj Committee, on a general date.
