Angered by Dean appointment, Dr KC begins strike again
KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital's senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC on Sunday began yet another fast-unto-death after the TU did not pay any heed to his ultimatum.
Issuing a press statement an hour before beginning the strike, he said achievements he gained from previous strikes would be lost if he stayed silent.
Dr KC of late had been demanding that the TU appoint the Institute of Medicine Dean on the basis of seniority, but not the political power sharing.
Prof Dr Keshab Prasad Singh had been appointed the Dean yesterday, but the veteran surgeon said the decision was not made on the basis of seniority.

Meanwhile, beginning the fast-unto-death, which is his 10th in the past few years, Dr KC has put forth total nine demands including a correction in the decision. He has also demanded that TU Vice-Chancellor Tirtha Khaniya be sacked as he tried to manipulate the appointment process.
He also demanded that tuition fees for MBBS and BDS be implemented as of last year’s, and new medical colleges be granted affiliation only after the enactment of new Medical Education Act.
He also urged the government to reformation the Judicial Investigation Commission to investigate into the examination frauds and anomalies at different universities including the BP Koirala Institute of Medical Sciences.
He demanded that the Parliament conclude the impeachment process against Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Chief Lok Man Singh Karki whereas another Commissioner Raj Narayan Pathak be also be booked for their alleged role in meddling medical education here.
