'Decisive talks' fail to make any decision again
KATHMANDU: Talks between the ruling parties and the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), hyped as 'decisive', failed to make any progress over differences on Wednesday as well.
The meeting lasted for around two hours and ended without making any decision.
According to leaders who participated in the meeting, the talks failed as both sides were adamant on their stances.
The protesting Front also accused the government of sitting for talks without serious preparation.
Emerging from the meeting, UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who had led the ruling parties, however, said the talks did not fail.
The parties realised that all the issues should be dealt with in a package. "Now, the government, in coordination with the opposition party, will prepare a concrete proposal on the 11 demands of them (protesters) and call them for the dialogues again," he told the media persons.
The UDMF was ready to sit for talks anytime, according to the Maoist leader.
During the meeting, Dahal had also proposed to iron out the differences through a parliamentary committee or a high-level inter-party team.
Likewise, Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav said the door to talks was not closed.
The protesting parties, however, urged the ruling parties to invite them for talks only after sufficient preparation to address their demands, he added.
UCPN-Maoist Dahal, CPN-UML senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa among others leaders had represented the ruling alliance.
From the UDMF, FSF-N Chairman Yadav and senior leader Ashok Rai, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur and Vice-Chairman Rhidayesh Tripathi, among others were present.
The ruling parties had invited the main opposition Nepali Congress also to the talks. The party, however, did not take part in it.
