Differently-abled stage protest

KATHMANDU: National Human Rights Protection Forum for Disable Nepal (NHRPFDN) on Tuesday staged a protest in the capital, demanding that authorities make roads and footpaths disabled friendly. Persons with disability took to the streets to raise their issues and concerns, saying government authorities have failed to make adequate efforts to fix the dilapidated roads and pavements in the capital. According to the NHRPFDN, persons with disabilities have been affected the most by the inaction of the government and other stakeholders. A delegate of NHRPFDN led by its general secretary Ramesh Babu Tiwari also submitted a memorandum to Rudra Singh Tamang, Chief Executive Officer of Kathmandu Metropolitan City on Tuesday.

Cops held for theft

KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan International Airport police have arrested two cops on charge of stealing goods from luggage of passengers, an official said on Tuesday. The detainees are constables Nirmal Shah and Prem Raj Joshi. TIA police initiated legal action against the duo based on a CCTV footage that showed them stealing a laptop from a luggage that had arrived from Hong Kong on a Dragon air flight on Sunday. They have been sent to the Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, for legal proceedings.

Woman found dead

KATHMANDU: A woman committed suicide by hanging herself on Monday. Srijana Rai, 27, of Jhapa was found dead in her rented room in Nagarjun. According to police, her body was discovered hanging from a window grille in the toilet. The body has been sent to TU Teaching Hospital for post mortem.

Property gutted

KATHMANDU: Property worth around two lakh rupees was reduced to ashes after a fire broke out at a motorcycle workshop in Boudha on Monday. Police said that a bike and various brands of lubricant oil were gutted after the fire engulfed SD Auto Workshop belonging to Rabin Sharma. Police said an electric short-circuit had caused the fire. No human casualty was reported in the incident.
