IoM docs warn stern agitation against Agrawal's appointment
KATHMANDU: Doctors at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital have warned of launching a stern agitation if the Institute of Medicine Dean Prof Dr Jagadish Prasad Agrawal did not resign from his post.
At a news conference organised here Friday, the doctors said that they would launch additional protest programmes.
They have been staging the agitation for last 14 days objecting to the appointment of new Dean, arguing that former Dean Prof Dr KP Singh was forced to resign from the post, which was illogical and illegitimate.
Giving in to the fast-unto-death launched by senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC, Dr Singh had resigned from the post. Again, heeding Dr KC's demand that the Dean be appointed on the basis of seniority, Dr Agrawal had been appointed to the post.
The doctors carrying out the agitation have also formed an IoM Protection Struggle Committee.
They have also warned of disrupting teaching learning activities, hospital services and avoiding participation in any official programmes of the Office of Dean.
Struggle Committee Coordinator Dr Suresh Upreti demanded that the Dean should be appointed as per the rule while Prof Dr Prem Gyawali said that Dean Dr Agrawal should resign from the post because out of 57 departments, 55 have protested the appointment.
