KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 11
The Kathmandu Valley is growing increasingly colder as winter takes hold, with temperatures dropping across the nation.
In the Terai, cold winds and heavy fog are blanketing the region, amplifying the chill. Meanwhile, several mountainous areas, including Humla, Jumla, Kalikot, Achham, and Doti, are experiencing snowfall. Humla, in particular, has been covered in snow since Sunday, disrupting operations at Simkot Airport due to heavy accumulation.
The winter chill has firmly settled in the Kathmandu Valley as well. The temperature this morning was recorded at 3.9°C by the Meteorological Forecast Division at 8:45 AM, while the maximum temperature on Tuesday was 17°C.
Elsewhere, Jumla recorded the lowest temperature in the country today, dipping to -6.5°C. In contrast, Bhairahawa was the warmest city on Tuesday with a maximum temperature of 26.2°C, followed by Janakpur at 25°C.
This morning, the Terai regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces are enveloped in fog, which is expected to linger until the afternoon. The foggy weather condition in the terai regions is likely to persist in the coming days, MFD predicted.
The country is currently under the partial influence of westerly winds, resulting in partly cloudy skies in the Koshi Province, while the rest of the country is likely to maintain mainly fair weather conditions.
This weather pattern is predicted to continue throughout the night. Partly cloudy conditions are expected in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces, while the rest of the country will enjoy mainly fair skies.
