Ex-King Shah attends wedding of President's daughter

KATHMANDU: Former King Gyanendra Shah attended the wedding ceremony of President Bidya Devi Bhandari's daughter Nisha Kusum Bhandari at Sheetal Niwas, the Head of the State's official residence.

President Bhandari's youngest daughter Nisha, who is trained as a medical doctor, tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Abhishek Yadav, who is kin of former President Ram Baran Yadav.

The groom is son of Nepali Congress lawmaker Kiran Yadav, who is former President Yadav's niece.

Shah, who was invited to the wedding as former monarch, went to the Sheetal Niwas at 12:30 pm and extended his best of wishes to the new couple, according to Phaniraj Pathak, the former king's secretary. Also, he congratulated the President on the occasion.

The former king had gone alone and spent half at the presidential palace where the wedding ceremony was held.

He was seen conversing with some of the VIP guests, including former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand, Rastriya Prajatantra Party leaders Kamal Thapa and Pashupati Shamsher Rana, and former Army Chief Pyar Jung Thapa.
