Foreign employment fraud arrested

The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police has arrested a person allegedly involved in cheating youths with the promise of sending them to Gulf countries for employment.

SSP Manoj Neupane said Mohammad Ali Sah aka Aman,29, of Mithileshwor-9, Dhanusa was caught collecting up to Rs 300,000 from unwary people by showing them fake visas and demand letters of various companies based in Gulf countries. Sah would take the youths into confidence, saying Gulf-based companies had offered Nepali workers lucrative jobs with free accommodation and other benefits.

He would have the victims undergo medical check-up to dispel any suspicion. CIB has seized 177 Nepali passports and three Indian passports from his rented room.

According to CIB, he had been operating the fraud racket individually and was not associated with any authorised outsourcing company. Sah used to hold the passports and remain out of contact with the victims after collecting money from them.

In case the victims traced Sah’s whereabouts and asked him to return their passport with the money, he would threaten them of terrible consequences. He had also obtained SIM cards in the name of victims by producing their citizenship certificates.
