KATHMANDU: A Cabinet meeting held on Friday decided to face the no-confidence motion registered against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the Parliament.

The meeting held for the first time after ministers representing the CPN Maoist Centre quit the government on Tuesday reviewed the recently developed political context and made the decision, informed the government spokesperson as well as Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai.

The Maoist Centre and Nepali Congress have jointly filed the motion at the Parliament on Wednesday claiming the government has been turned into a minority one after the withdrawal of the Maoist party.

Earlier, the ruling parties except the Maoists had also decided to face the motion. The Prime Minister's party CPN-UML had also made a similar decision yesterday.

Other decisions

Likewise, the Cabinet appointed industrialists Bhawani Rana and Rajesh Kaji Shrestha as members of the Investment Board of Nepal, Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai informed after the meeting at Singhadarbar.

The government also scrapped Nepali citizenship certificates of four Indian nationals, who had acquired legal identity by using fake documents.

They had acquired the citizenship from the Banke District Office. The government decided to take action against the officials who issued citizenship to them based on the fake documents.

The meeting promoted two joint-secretaries to the post of secretaries. Maniram Ojha of the judicial service has been promoted and appointed Secretary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Likewise, the sitting Joint Secretary of the Vice-President's Office Purushottam Paudel has been made Secretary. He has been assigned to take the job as the Regional Administrator of the Mid-Western Development Region.
