House meet postponed till Sunday as parties seek time for discussions

KATHMANDU: Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar on Thursday postponed the Parliament meeting called for today till Sunday as major political parties sought time for internal discussions over the impeachment motion against Chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Lok Man Singh Karki.

Gharti also postponed her visit to Geneva scheduled to begin on Friday.

"Due to special political reasons," the Speaker's press advisor Babin Sharma has written on his Twitter, "Today's Parliament meeting has been postponed till Sunday whereas the Speaker's Geneva visit has also been put off."

Gharti was flying to Geneva for the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting.

The Parliament meeting would take place at 11 am on Sunday, according to the Parliament Secretariat.

Earlier, it was reported that the impeachment motion would be tabled at the Parliament to begin discussions today itself.

Meanwhile, major political parties have expedited internal and inter-party discussions about next steps.
