KATHMANDU: Few protestors were injured after police baton-charged a crowd gathered outside the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) office for a demonstration, on Sunday.

Medical science students, practising doctors and members of the public had gathered outside the Tangal-based central office of the anti-corruption constitutional body to protest what they called the CIAA's intervention into an entrance examination of the Kathmandu University.

However, police baton-charged the protesters and foiled the demonstration. It has been learned that at least six protestors have sustained injuries.

Police also detained some protesters and took them to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kamal Pokhari.

The protest was organised at a time when the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital's senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC has been staging a hunger strike for last 15 days demanding impeachment against CIAA chief Lokman Singh Karki and commissioner Raj Narayan Pathak as they allegedly intervened into the KU exams by breaching the jurisdiction, thereby promoting corruption in Nepal's medical education sector.
