Mahara off to China as Nepal PM's emissary

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Krishna Bahadur Mahara on Monday left for Beijing of China as an emissary of Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Earlier, the Cabinet meeting last week had decided to send Mahara to China and another Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi to India as the government's special emissaries.

It has been learned that Mahara would convey messages of Dahal about the new government's plans and priorities.

Before flying to Beijing, the DPM informed journalists at the Tribhuvan International Airport that his major objective in China would be to expand and develop the bilateral relations.

"We also hope for China's support and Nepal visit by Chinese leaders in order to expand the good ties."

Meanwhile, Mahara said the government was committed to implementing agreements signed by the erstwhile KP Sharma Oli-government with the northern neighbour.

He is scheduled to hold meetings with high-level leaders and officials of China.

Join-Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jhabindra Prasad Aryal, is accompanying Mahara in the visit.
