Man held for unauthorised use of Japanese national's credit card

KATHMANDU: Police recently arrested a man for his alleged involvement in banking fraud through unauthorised use of a credit card issued in the name of a Japanese national living in Nepal.

Tejindra KC (32), a permanent resident of Galkot-9 in Baglung district was arrested by a team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police from Buddhanagar, KMC-10 on last Wednesday, August 17.

KC, who was residing at the Baglung Paradise Hotel and Restaurant in Balaju, KMC-16, was provided with the card number and other details of the Japanese national's credit card, issued by the Himalayan Bank Limited, around three months ago by a Nepali friend living in Japan, according to police.

Since then, he repeatedly used the credit card to buy mobile phones of various brands from the Neoteric Nepal Pvt Ltd online, police said.

He would send other people to receive the purchases so as to avoid any suspicion.

While he would use some of those phones to repay his debt, others were sold at a decreased rate, investigation revealed.

Police said KC was also involved in defrauding other people with fake assurance of sending them to Japan.

He would face a case under the Banking Offence and Punishment Act, 2008.

Meanwhile, police alerted members of the public against divulging secret information about banking cards to avoid any fraudulent activities.
