Mayor avoids campaign

KATHMANDU: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidhya Sundar Shakya, who was approached by the organisers several times to invite him at the ‘Occupy Tundikhel’ campaign had been avoiding them and was not receiving the organisers’ call.

Earlier, activists had made the local body remove dozens of illegal makeshift tents set up at Khula Manch in April.

On Saturday morning, organisers had reached the venue along the Bishnumati River banks to invite Mayor Shakya, where he was attending another programme.

After receiving the invitation, Mayor Shakya said people should not give political colour to any kind of activism.

“We know that Tundikhel is encroached and Khula Manch is occupied. The metropolis will vacate encroached Tundikhel and Khula Manch areas, but I request all not to give political colour to this issue.”
