ML 4.6 tremor hits Sindhupalchok, felt in Valley also

KATHMANDU: An aftershock measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale was recorded on Thursday.

According to the National Seismological Centre, Lainchaur, the epicentre of the tremor was in Sindhupalchok district.

The coordinates of the centre are: latitude-27.80 and longitude-85.78.

It was felt in the Kathmandu Valley also.

This is the second light aftershock (of local magnitude 4.0 or above), the NSC  recorded on Thursday.  Aftershock of ML 4.0 was recorded in Dolakha at 00:26 am. Four significant aftershocks of the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25 were recorded yesterday.

The number of significant aftershocks (of ML 4.0 or above) has reached 309 now, the NSC said.

Four aftershocks of ML 6.0 or above followed the ML 7.6 earthquake that occurred at Barpak area of Gorkha district at 11:56 am on April 25.

Over 20,000 minor aftershocks have been recorded then after.

More than as 8,784 people are confirmed dead in the earthquake and its frequent aftershocks, while hundreds are still missing. Over 23,300 people were injured.

As many as 3,440 people were killed in Sindhupalchok, 1,222 in Kathmandu and 1,098 in Nuwakot.
