Narahari Acharya 'critical but stable', not to be operated immediately

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Narahari Acharya, who suffered a brain stroke after paying homage to Sushil Koirala, is said to be in a critical but stable condition.

He is receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of Bansbari-based Neuro Hospital.

According to the Neuro Hospital, brain haemorrhage was caused after an artery supplying blood to Acharya's brain ruptured. A blood clot has been detected deep inside the left part of his brain.

The condition, induced by high blood pressure, has apparently caused partial paralysis on the right part of his body. Also, Acharya has temporarily lost his speech and is semiconscious.

Senior neurosurgeon Dr Upendra Devkota said at a press conference this afternoon that Acharya suffered brain hemorrhage due to high blood pressure, and its management was quite complex.

Dr Devkota ruled out possibility of carrying out any surgery immediately, saying operations on such cases generally would not produce good results.

Acharya is currently under medication and close observation of doctors, according to one of his relatives. The doctors have not allowed visitors to see him, the relative added.
