Finally, NC-Maoists seal deal with UDMF

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress and the CPN Maoist Centre, which are in a bid to win the prime ministerial poll with a heavy margin, finally convinced the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front to support the Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government.

After the three-point agreement, the constituents of the UDMF would vote for Dahal in the PM election to be held today.

The three political forces have agreed that the new government would table a constitution amendment proposal at the Parliament on the basis of political consensus to address demands of the agitating parties pertaining to the Constitution, NC leader Ramesh Lekhak told media after the meeting.

Likewise, an investigation commission would be formed under the leadership of a former justice of the Supreme Court to probe into incidents of violence occurred during the anti-Constitution protests led by the UDMF and the Federal Alliance.

Those killed in the protests would be declared martyrs by the new government and other families affected by the protests would be provided with financial assistance.

The government would also provide free treatment to those injured during the protests. The UDMF and Federal Alliance cadres arrested during the protests would be released and cases filed against them would be withdrawn by the new government.
