President Yadav asks Madhesi parties to resolve differences through talks, Gachhadar to take initiative

KATHMANDU: Expressing his concerns over the unrest in Tarai-Madhesh districts and rising crisis in the country, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has said that both the agitating parties and the the state should sit for talks in order to resolve their differences over the new Constitution.

The Head of the State said so during a meeting with Chairman of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Nepal, Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, and asked him to take an initiative for the talks between the two sides, according to the President's press advisor, Rajendra Dahal.

Saying it has already been one and half months of agitation and people have been left to suffer, the President urged Gachhadar -- considering his past experiences in the government and the participation in agitation -- to take initiative to bring the state, the major three parties and the agitating side to the table of negotiation, Dahal informed.

Gachhadar had called on the President at the President's House, Sheetal Niwas on Friday meeting morning.

Emerging from the meeting, Gachhadar told the media that the government's latest call for dialogue was positive and both the state and the agitating parties should be serious to resolve their differences.

He was of the opinion that the concerns of Madhesi and Tharus could be addressed through the amendments of recently promulgated Constitution.
