Election Commission bans fake accounts, misinformation and AI-driven content to ensure fair polls
KATHMANDU, JANUARY 11
With 53 days remaining for the March 5 House of Representatives election, the Election Commission has brought activities on social networking platforms under the election code of conduct to ensure free and fair polls.
The commission has prohibited the operation of fake social media accounts or pages intended to influence the election, as well as the spread of misinformation, hate speech, insults or character assassination-whether carried out manually or using artificial intelligence (AI).
The code also bars modifying, reposting, live-streaming, tagging or commenting on any content with the intention of influencing voters. Acts that undermine the credibility of the election, damage the reputation of the Election Commission or violate voter confidentiality are also banned.
The commission said the code of conduct will come into force from January 17.
