KATHMANDU, JANUARY 4
The Election Commission (EC) has strictly prohibited the use of children in any form of election campaigning under the code of conduct issued for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.
The code bars political parties and candidates from involving children in publicity, rallies, meetings, or any campaign-related activities, stressing the need to protect minors from political influence and exploitation during the electoral process.
The EC has also directed government and semi-government bodies to remain strictly neutral, banning the use of public resources, projects and institutions-including schools, colleges and universities-for election-related activities. Public offices and educational institutions cannot be used for campaign gatherings or publicity in favour of or against any party or candidate.
The code further prohibits the production, use, or distribution of campaign-related clothing and symbolic materials bearing party or candidate symbols. Political activities on private property require the owner's consent, while rallies and meetings must not obstruct public movement.
In addition, the EC has warned against the spread of false, misleading, or hateful information through any media, including social media platforms, and has called for full compliance to ensure a free, fai,r and child-sensitive election environment.
