RPP, RPP-Nepal unification in limbo after Rana's withdrawal

KATHMANDU: The unification between the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N), which was said to be announced on Tuesday, has become uncertain as the two parties could not forge agreement on the interim statute of unified party.

Just a day before the unification announcement ceremony was scheduled for, RPP Chairman Pashupati Shamsher Rana issued a statement stating that no one of his party would attend the function unless the statute was amended.

On the other hand, RPP-N Chairman Kamal Thapa said Rana's decision to postpone the unification unilaterally was unfortunate as the both parties had fixed the date in consensus.

Other leaders of RPP-N also seem quite busy preparing for the function as they have been sharing pictures of the preparation activities on social media.

Rana in the statement today said more discussion on the statute was needed between the two parties before finalising the merger.

The interim statute was presented for discussion at the RPP central committee today, but the meeting did not endorse it, according to Rana.

"The unity between the RPP and the RPP-Nepal is a need of the nation today," Rana, however, maintained, "The RPP is committed to it."

Earlier on Saturday, chairs of both parties - Rana of RPP and Kamal Thapa of RPP-N - had jointly informed that the parties would announce unification amid a function in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

The two parties are preparing for the unification for last few months.
