Speaker calls top leaders' meet for Monday

KATHMANDU: Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar once again has called top leaders of major parties in the Parliament for a meeting in a bid to end the current political stalemate.

Top leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN Maoist Centre, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party have been called for the meeting at 3 pm tomorrow, according to Gharti's press advisor Babin Sharma.

The chief of the legislative body would discuss how to lift obstructions at the House, currently imposed by the main opposition CPN-UML among others in protest of the Constitution amendment bill, according to Sharma.

He said the Speaker would highlight that the impeachment motion filed against the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Chief Lok Man Singh Karki and various election-related bills had been stranded halfway due to the obstruction.

Gharti is planning to make the Monday discussion fruitful and end the House obstruction, Sharma claimed.

The Parliament has not been able to proceed with its business since November 29 when the government registered the Constitution amendment bill at the Parliament thanks to the protests carried out by the main opposition including the CPN-UML.
