Student unions rally against fuel black-marketing

Kathmandu, April 1

Various student unions today took out a rally in the capital demanding that the government take initiatives to control black-marketing of essential commodities, including petroleum products.

UP Lamichhane, spokesperson for the Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Student Union said they took out a rally, which started from RR Campus and passed through Putalisadak and Baghbazar before converging into a corner meet at Ratnapark. Students unions aligned to ruling CPN-UML and Unified CPN-Maoist also participated in the rally.

“The demonstration was a warning to the government to end black marketing and ease supply of essentials,” he said.

The student unions will take out a similar rally in 72 districts outside the Kathmandu valley on April 3. A joint meeting between student unions held yesterday had decided to hand over a memo to Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel on April 4 demanding implementation of their agreement between student unions and the government on April 23, 2015.
