Three parties 'positive' on holding local polls at earliest

KATHMANDU: A meeting of major three political parties on Wednesday held "positive" discussions on holding local polls at the earliest, the PM's Secretariat claimed.

In the meeting held upon the call of Prime Minister and CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal today, the leaders expressed readiness to announce local polls and hold the elections at the earliest, according to the PM's Secretariat.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Dahal had requested the main opposition party, CPN-UML, to let the Parliament conclude the ongoing discussions on the Constitution amendment bill.

He was of the view that major parties should forge a package deal on contemporary issues of discontents including the amendment, election-related laws, the impeachment motion against the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Lok Man Singh Karki and the report of the Local Bodies' Restructuring Commission.

Dahal, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Ram Bahadur Thapa and Pampha Bhusal from the CPN MC; Sher Bahadur Deuba, Ram Chandra Paudel, Bimalendra Nidhi, Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Prakash Man Singh from the Nepali Congress; KP Sharma Oli, Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal from the UML were present in the meeting.
