Gusty winds also forecast in Madhesh and adjoining provinces

KATHMANDU, MAY 26

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast moderate rainfall and thunderstorms in several hilly and Himalayan regions of the country on Tuesday, while hot day conditions are expected to persist in parts of western Nepal.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, generally cloudy conditions are likely over Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, including most hilly and Himalayan regions, while the remaining Terai areas are expected to remain partly cloudy.

Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in parts of Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.

The department has also forecast gusty winds at some places in the hilly and Terai regions of Madhesh Province and adjoining areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Hot day conditions are likely in the Terai districts of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces. Dhangadi and Nepalgunj are expected to record temperatures between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius, while Dipayal may witness temperatures as high as 40 degrees Celsius.

Kathmandu and Pokhara are likely to receive moderate rain with thundershowers, while Taplejung, Okhaldhunga and Jiri are also forecast to receive rainfall.

The department said the country is currently under the influence of westerly and local winds along with a low-pressure system near the eastern region of Nepal.
