Tremor felt in Kathmandu Valley, epicentre in Sindhupalchok

KATHMANDU: A tremor was felt in the Kathmandu Valley and neighbouring districts in central Nepal at around 00:51 am.

The National Seismological Centre said it was an aftershock of April 25 earthquake and it was of local magnitude 4.2.

Its epicentre was close to Selang of Sindhupalchok district, which lies northeast of Kathmandu Valley.

The tremor originated from a location with coordinates 27.85°N, 85.74°E,  north of the district headquarters, Chautara.

With this, the NSC records show that the number of significant aftershocks of local magnitude 4.0 or above has reached 385.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, an independent light earthquake of local magnitude 4.1 was recorded in Humla district of western Nepal. The tremor apparently originated from some depth below the Karnali River.
