Women Safety Walk held at Dharmasthali

Kathmandu, October 18

Women for Human Rights, Single Women Group with support from UN Women today organised 'Women Safety Walk' at Dharmasthali, Tarkeshwor Municipality-13.

The walk was part of the 1st Women Safety Audit conducted by WHR at Dharmasthali last week. Last week, WHR-Dharmashthali members had discussed safe and unsafe routes for women and girls in Dharmasthali.

Earlier, during the women safety audit, they had stated that the women and girls were not safe in open spaces after the quake and that rape and trafficking of girls and women was on the rise. The walk today was organised to raise awareness on protecting women and girls from physical violence in the area, said Uma Thapa, communication officer, WHR.

“The main aim of the Women Safety Walk was to give a message to locals to make public places safer for women and girls,” she said, adding that the ‘Women safety walk’ was held at Dharmasthali after extensive consultations with local stakeholders.

The walk, which started from Dharmasthali Khelchaur, passed through Dharmasthali Daabali, Pokhari Ganeshsthan, Radha Krishna Temple, Gaucharan, Deuke Sano Bypass, Purkun, Dharmasthali School and concluded at a police station. The walk was joined by government officials, health workers and single women.
