4,427 suffering from malnutrition after quake

A survey conducted with technical assistance from Nepali Technicians’ Assistance Group and in coordination of the District Health Office, Kavre showed that following last year’s deadly earthquakes, as many as 4,427 persons, including children, pregnant women, and new mothers are suffering from malnutrition.

As many as 17 nutrition officers deployed from the health office had collected data on children, pregnant women, and new mothers from 75 VDCs and six municipalities in the district.

During the data collection, severe acute malnutrition was detected in 134 children, medium severe acute malnutrition in 3,001, and medium severe malnutrition in 1,292 pregnant and new mothers.

Coordinator at Technicians’ Support Group Rabi Neupane said of the 134 children with severe acute malnutrition, 70 had completed treatment. Others are currently being treated for free. Neupane informed that children and pregnant women with medium severe malnutrition were currently receiving treatment.

NTAG had launched the programme with the financial support from UNICEF and the World.
