MYAGDI: Five locals who had gone missing after a dry landslide hit the base of Mt Annapurna South have been come into contact of other villagers on Tuesday.

Tak Bahadur Thajali, Sher Bahadur Thajali, Dil Bahadur Thajali of Lek Gaun, Narchyang-5; Hukum Pun of Narchyang-6, and Tar Bahadur Phagami of Narchyang-4 had gone out of contact after the landslide. They had gone to collect nigalo -- a wild variety of bamboo -- in the area.

All five are safe, according to Bishnu Thapa, an engineer with a local Ghalemdi Khola Hydroelectricity project.

A group of locals mobilised for searching the missing had established contact with them, said Thapa.

The Ghalemdi Khola, has been blocked by the landslide while the entire region including Narchyang, Dana, Bhurung, Tatopani, Shikh, Ghaar, Beg and Dawa VDCs area has been enshrouded in dust. Normal life has been affected there due to the dust particles, according to Sub Inspector of Nepal Police Parashuram Joshi.
