Flood wreaks havoc on Babai River bridge in Bardiya

NEPALGUNJ: The Jabdighat Bridge over Babai River has caved in due to flood triggered by the incessant rainfall for the past four days in Bardiya district.

The 400-metre bridge, which linked the East-West Highway, caved in on Monday morning, said Ganja Bahadur MC, deputy chief at the Bardiya District Administration Office.

The bridge was constructed in Gulariya just a year ago at a cost of Rs 10.6 million and its handover was due when it gave way.

According to the the Bardiya DAO, around 10,000 households have been displaced by havoc caused by the monsoon floods and landslides in the district.

Dozens of villages have been inundated in the floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, security personnel deployed from Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been continuing the rescue operations in the flood-hit areas.

“It has been difficult to carry out the rescue operation due to the incessant rainfall,” informed the DAO.
