Conflict-hit children yet to get relief

As many as 222 children, who lost their parents or whose parents sustained critical injuries during the armed insurgency, have yet to receive government relief in Rukum.
District Child Welfare Committee Rukum is all set to provide educational, health,psycho-social and legal support to the children in association with Peace Trust within this fiscal.
According to the committee, it prepared a list of such children using all data available in the district.
Man Bir Oli, child rights officer at the committee, said they had collected a list of as many as 835 children from two municipalities and 39 VDCs of the district.
“Of them only 222 children were selected on the basis of criteria set by the government,” he said.
The children who lost both their parents or whose parents were handicapped, displaced or robbed and those born of illicit relationships were incorporated in the list.
Of them, 200 children will be provided with Rs 5,000 each for education. Similarly, five children will be provided Rs 8,000 for health care and 12 children will be provided psycho-social support, among others.
Meanwhile, the committee will also declare five schools of the district as peace zones.
Around Rs 1.5 millions will be spent for the rehabilitation of conflict affected children, according to sources.
