KATHMANDU, APRIL 5
The hearing on the writ petitions filed at the Supreme Court, seeking the release of KP Sharma Oli, Chairman of CPN (UML), and Ramesh Lekhak, a Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister, will continue on Monday, according to the Supreme Court of Nepal.
Spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala stated that the hearing has been scheduled to resume on Monday due to time constraints faced by Justices Binod Sharma and Sunil Kumar Pokharel.
The habeas corpus petitions were filed by Oli's spouse, Radhika Shakya, and Lekhak's spouse, Yashoda Lekhak, alleging that the two leaders were being held in unlawful detention.
Earlier, on March 30, the Supreme Court had issued a show-cause order in response to the petitions, seeking clarification regarding the detention of Chairman Oli and leader Lekhak.
Oli and Lekhak were taken into custody from their respective residences after the government decided to implement the report of an inquiry commission formed to investigate the protests of September 8 and 9, along with the subsequent incidents.
