Heavy rain is likely at isolated places across several provinces today as the monsoon continues to influence the entire country, with moderate rain and thunderstorms forecast in many hilly areas.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division said heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki, the Himalayan region of Koshi, and the hilly and Terai regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected at many places in the hills, while some Himalayan areas could receive moderate rain or snowfall with thunderstorms. Parts of the Terai in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim are also likely to receive moderate rainfall.
The forecast puts Bhairahawa, Simara and Janakpur among the warmer cities, with maximum temperatures of 33–35°C. Kathmandu is expected to record 28–30°C, while Dadeldhura will be among the cooler locations at 20–22°C.
Pokhara and Kathmandu have a 60 per cent chance of rain today, while the probability rises to 70 per cent in Dadeldhura and Dhangadi. Jiri also has a 60 per cent chance of rain.
The weather office said the entire country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds, with the trough slightly north of its average position in the west and near its normal position in the east.
Tonight: Cloudy conditions are expected to continue nationwide, with moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms possible in some Himalayan and hilly areas. Moderate rain is also possible at a few places in the Terai. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
