Dr Govinda KC serves one-day ultimatum to appoint IoM Dean
KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital's senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC has given a one-day ultimatum to the government to appoint Dean at the Institute of Medicine (IoM) under the Tribhuvan University on the basis of seniority.
Dr KC warned that he would resort to the hunger strike again if his demand was unheeded and the top position was filled on the basis of political power sharing.
Earlier, he has already staged the fast-unto-death for nine times in past few years demanding reforms in Nepal's medical education sector.
Meanwhile, Dr KC also put forth other six demands today itself and urged the government to meet them within two weeks.
He demanded that Tribhuvan University Vice-Chancellor Tirtha Khaniya be fired for his unethical negotiations in appointing the dean, tuition fees for MBBS and BDS be implemented as of last year's, and new medical colleges be granted affiliation only after the enactment of new Medical Education Act.
He demanded that the Parliament conclude the impeachment process against Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Chief Lok Man Singh Karki whereas another Commissioner Raj Narayan Pathak be also be booked for their alleged role in meddling medical education here.
He also urged the government to reformation the Judicial Investigation Commission to investigate into the examination frauds and anomalies at different universities including the BP Koirala Institute of Medical Sciences.
